“Hey! Do you guys see that?” Zack pointed towards the star filled sky at a bright narrow stream of light quickly making its way across the heavens. The other two looked up with wide eyes and open mouths, now riding along side each other to share their wonder.
“Oh. It's just a shooting star,” Andrew said with a hint of disappointment.
The three continued to look towards the sky in silence even after the light flickered and faded away.
“So you're an expert on this kind of stuff Andrew,” said Suzy, “What's really out there?”
Andrew continued starring at the sky and answered without thought, “Stars… Planets…”
Zack let loose an enormous belch. “Huge clouds of gas.”
Suzy rolled her eyes at Zack then threw a teasing punch that landed squarely on Andrew's shoulder. “You know what I mean!”
Andrew laughed for a moment and then paused, still staring at the sky as if contemplating something.
“Well?” replied Suzy impatiently.
“Well… Many of those stars have their own planets circling around them. I believe that there has to be someone on one of those distant and hidden planets staring up at our own star right now, wondering the exact same thing.”
A few moments passed and they continued to gaze upwards with mouths agape as if the sky itself threatened to make them a part of its marvelous wonder. Andrew was expecting some type of clever retort from Suzy any second now.
But it never came.
